Good high-output bulbs that produce a great beam July 20, 2010 R. A. Diercksmeier (Brookfield, WI) These bulbs do a good job of pumping up the light output on my Mercedes, over the stock bulbs.
I have already replaced one after about a year of use. I guess the one year life should not be a surprise, considering they get that higher light output by drawing more current.
Generally .... more candlepower, shorter life.
There is no free lunch.
I will probably buy them again when the next one dies.
It is brighter July 18, 2010 Kwok Ng (San Jose, CA United States) I am not sure if it is lasting or not, but it is, indeed, brighter. My wife's Lexus ES300 stock head light was really dim. It was like no head light turned on before. After I changed this H7 light bulbs, I could see the different already. Some reviews said it was no different. I have a feeling it really depends on the settings of the head light. The ES300 has a cap in front of the bulb, so it may not be as bright as the other cars. Overall, I still like it. Also, amazon's price is better. I paid $56 in a local store.
A+++ VISIBILITY May 8, 2010 Howard F. Hansen (PHX, AZ) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
First off, I just read through most of the reviews for this product and was very disappointed with what I saw. I have used these bulbs before, replacing OEM 9007 fittings and the improvement was phenomenal! I used the Silverstar Ultras for over a year before selling my car without needing to replace bulbs again and the increased visibility is worth every penny for what these cost.
If you price check this product it's $50 at any auto retail store Autozone/Checker.
Proper Installation:
I'm not sure whether or not those other people who gave bad reviews for reliability/life of the bulb installed them properly. If ANY dirt or oil from your hands gets on the bulbs while you install them, kiss them goodbye and just buy new ones. These bulbs burn much hotter than OEM bulbs and proper installation is CRUCIAL. To make it easier, just buy the $2 installation kit at Autozone/Checker auto parts stores and it will come with bulb grease to ensure good electrical contact and a pair of gloves to protect the bulbs from your hands.
Gone in a bright flash February 27, 2010 Dr. Richard A. Bassett (Connecticut) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I switched from the OEM lights in my Saab 2.0t as I wanted something a bit brighter to light up the road and paid almost $50 for this two-pack. I have to say they did light up the road pretty well but for only 4 months and then 1 of them blew.
I went back to the auto parts store today to buy 1 replacement and they indicated that these bulbs are only sold in two-packs, the clerk also indicated that they have short life and that people who buy them come in every few months for replacements.
This is not for me. I want my headlights to just work and I don't want the hassle of changing bulbs every few months.
Bottom Line: I don't recommend these and will move back to OEM bulbs.
Great lights, short life February 10, 2010 Corey Hurcomb (Indiana, USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The light output is great compared to the OEM bulbs in my 2006 Subaru WRX. The one problem I have is that this will be my 3rd set of bulbs in as many years. When the last set failed they both went at the same time and I had to drive home with the brights on for an hour. This time only one went but I replaced both at the same time as recommended. As you can tell I think they are worth the money and effort or I wouldn't be buying a 3rd set. I'm not sure where the "long life" claim comes from in the Amazon ad but that is the only thing keeping me from rating them 5 stars. Depending on the location of your bulbs, and the difficulty of replacing them, you might want to consider a "lower maintenance" (longer lasting) bulb unless you enjoy working on car as I do.
