This unit appears to be better made than the original. It has inset nuts to hold steel bolts rather than the simple plastic threaded holes Toyota's comes with. Because of this, you'll need metric bolts to fit in those nuts. I bought three at a hardware store with lock washers for under a dollar. I should have bought four since I dropped one into the cavity of the door and had to go back to the store for a replacement.
Regarding it being thicker or thinner, I didn't notice this. I did notice that you can slightly bend the tabs on the upper two bolts to adjust the placement of the handle.
Regarding it not working well, I think that might be a function of the linkage. It's tough to align the linkage and it needs to be pressed in securely or it will drag/snag inside the door.
Remember, if you get this, you'll have to take it to the hardware store and get three metric bolts. If you're slightly clumsy, get four.
In my opinion, when you consider the price, you'd be crazy to opt for anything but this handle.

It works. Not as strong as dealer version. I purchased a mirror a year ago from the same company and the color fades quickly and doesnt match the car anymore but it works.

I bought this product thinking it is as good as the toyota part, when we tried to fix this in the car, we found that the quality was too bad and certain areas were 3 times thicker that in the original part and we had to file the extra thickness and fit it, after all this the handle doesn't work well as well.

Toyota Dealerships wanted 3 to 4 times as much for the same part. Product arrived with factory matched paint. Looks and works great.
