Despite a lot of the negative reviews, I am very pleased with this product. They must have fixed the bolt concerns because mine worked just fine. The only complaints that I have are the keys are a little too big but not a big deal and the bezel could fit just a little better. Not quite OEM quality but still very nice for the price. Bezel hasn't fallen off like some of reviews claim, but doesn't fit quite flush like original bezel did. So its 4 stars for me and you definitely can't go wrong for the price!

I read several reviews of people having problems with this unit so I was skeptical to say the least. I received the product and was quite pleased with the ease of installation and the added security it added to my truck (my gate and bed cover are both lockable now). Very easy install and the bezel looks the same as the factory (which they want 45 bucks just for the bezel) so this product proved to be a great deal, not only did I get a cheaper bezel, I got a lock also.

This item does not fit a 2010 Chevrolet Silverado as Bully says. I ordered one from streetsideauto and it does not match. Now I am fighting with them over the return fees.

I bought and installed this unit on my '02 Silverado back when it was new. I paid about $25 for it back then. I dont understand why GM does not install locks standard on all their pickup tailgates; Ford and Nissan puts locks on at least some of their tailgates. For that matter it's also stupid that the glovebox doesnt lock, but I digress.
Installing this lock makes the tailgate look more secure and would probably give a thief a second thought. I feel a lot better knowing that the little plastic overhang of the cap door is not the only thing protecting my stuff in the bed, or for that matter keeping someone from walking off with the tailgate itself - which comes out in the blink of an eye on every pickup I've had since '90.
The lock was easy to install, took about 30 minutes. Now that I am familiar with it, it would probably take me about 10 minutes to install one.
It is now 8 years old, but the tumbler has rusted into uselessness and I am going to get another one to replace it with. I guess you cant get much better recommendation than "I bought one, used it and am going to buy another".
